The surprise written across his face when he sees her is unexpected. It was almost like there was something about her that he recognized, though she was entirely certain that she'd never met anyone like him in her entire life. It was a little intriguing, though, and even thought it was smarter to just keep going and forget about all of this, she just couldn't let herself do that.
"I honestly don't know what's around here," she answers, still wearing that smile. "The train dropped me off back there," with a nod toward where she'd walked from, "but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind. I was trying to get to the city, or at least find somewhere to stay the night."
She's worked long and hard to perfect her French over the years, even teaching it to middle and high school students once she got good enough. It's a point of pride for her, really, and she's always loved using it.
