Even now, even when it makes absolute sense for her to tell him the truth, it's hard for her to get it out. It's one of those things that Dawn has trouble explaining because she has such negative feelings and experiences associated with it. It's one of those things that Dawn really doesn't much like about herself.
She isn't special. She's a liability. She's a thing of mass destruction. None of the people she knows and loves would ever say it. But it's something she's accepted about herself.
"Well..." She stalls by shoving a bite of pizza into her mouth. She takes time chewing that bite. She even takes time swallowing it down. "I'm kind of not real. I mean, I was created a handful of years ago to house this ancient mystical key that can tear down the walls between worlds and realities and open portals and... all kinds of cool destructive stuff."
Dawn wants so badly to be the hero of the story. She's never the hero though. As stated above, she's a weapon, she's a liability. That doesn't mean she doesn't try though. "I've helped save the world a few times though so I'm kind of vicariously a super hero!"
