Whatever it was, it smelled divine. Now that it was uncovered, Matt could
smell the individual ingredients and it was unlike anything he'd smelled
before. Maybe that was part of growing up: recreating the various comforts
for yourself that your parents once did for you. Matt's brand of comfort
wasn't nearly as aromatic or as domestic. He liked to listen to boxing
matches. It was something he and his father did together. He usually
combined a can of beer with the activity as his father once did. Fatima's
version of comfort was much nicer, in his opinion.
He nodded a little, making an agreeable noise. He did remember. She'd been
determined to find some kind of evidence to figure out who had set the
fire, unable to accept 'bad wiring' or whatever the standard excuse had
been. His brows shot up over his glasses when she said there was a witness
and a pleased, proud smile tugged at the corners of lips. One of his
favorite things about Fatima was her determination, her resourcefulness.
"That's fantastic. Your clients ought to be happy. Where did you find
them?" Sorry, but he wasn't going to leave it there. He was too curious for
that.
When she knelt beside the chair, he smiled, head tilting down just a bit.
He could gauge to the millimeter where she was, but he couldn't tell her
that. It had nothing to do with not trusting her--okay, well not entirely.
Mostly, it was fear that kept him from telling her about him. Since the
Avengers had torn up the city saving it from aliens, inhumans had come out
by the droves, but they weren't always well received and while Matt's
powers would be viewed as mostly passive (they weren't) they could also be
viewed as invasive and 'creepy'. He wasn't sure if Fatima was ready for
that, but he knew he wasn't ready to scare her off.
Besides, he didn't mind letting her feed him dessert. He leaned forward and
took a bite, teeth coming close to her fingers, lips just brushing them.
His eyes widened at the taste as he sat back again and chewed it. "That's
as divine as it smells. Maybe even more so."
