That would make the phrase a good deal more uncomfortable. One of these days, Lucy will learn to filter what comes out of her mouth, to consider how others might take her words, but today is not that day. Hopefully, Derek will realize that she didn't mean any harm. She rarely does.

"Oh yeah," she tells him. "And it's different from barbeque in other places. In the south, barbeque means pork, smoked and a little sweet. We get real upset if you say you're having a barbeque and we come over to find nothing but hot dogs and hamburgers. That's a cook out." She can't help but smile at that. "Then I'm going to have to make you grits. It's ground up corn, sort of like cream of wheat, but savory." Some people eat grits sweet, but that's hardly the point here.

"Absolutely certain," she assures him. "Turn at the next street. It's about half way up on the right. It looks like a shed, but I promise you're not going to be disappointed."
