Indeed, once the new drink is in front of him, Derek knocks it back. He tells himself he'll take it slower as soon as he starts to feel it. So far, nothing. The eclipse evidently hasn't started yet. He doesn't waste time picking up the third, but he has to take pause before actually drinking it.
He's a little surprised at the way she's injected herself into his life at the moment, but all the same, Derek smiles a little and gives a little nod and finally knocks back the drink.
"Lucy," he repeats, giving a little facial shrug of approval. "I'm Derek. I don't know how great a driving friend I'll be, but be my guest." Mostly, what he means is, he doesn't know whether he'll get stupid drunk for a few minutes and then suddenly his buzz will be gone faster than it came. That'll make for kind of a sucky drinking buddy, probably, right? He shakes her hand and sets his empty shot glass down on the bar again. "Is everyone this friendly or are you just really bored tonight?" he asks with a little grin of amusement. Most people don't bother with Derek. He supposes he gives off a vibe that tells them not to bother.
