When invited, Derek sits beside her on the couch, looking over at her thoughtfully as he opens his bottle of water to take a sip. "Infinitely nicer than my hotel room."
Which...well. That's both true and untrue, because it's a nice hotel so the room is pretty nice. It just doesn't look homey and Derek would prefer homey and lived-in to luxurious any day. There was a time in his life when that wouldn't be true, but ever since the fire, it has been. He just hasn't been able to make himself build a home in the places he's lived. Everything always felt temporary.
