Beth always feels so small and fragile in Derek's arms, but the good thing about that is that Derek gets to always feel like he's protecting her, even when there's nothing to protect her from. He relishes the way his girlfriend feels in his arms and with her head on his chest. It makes him feel important and sometimes Derek needs the reminder that he is.
When Beth looks up, Derek feels the movement and looks down. His expression drops with her words. "Really, Beth? Really?" he asks, feigning upset — some days it would've been genuine annoyance; they're not perfect and of course they fight once in a while. But he has a good feeling about today and nothing is going to get him down — as he sighs. "Who's the worst, now?" he teases as he starts to disentangle himself from her to go get the damn soap.
"Stay there, I'll be right back," he promises, moving back toward the bank to get out of the water.
