dudeimbatman: (Lipbite [I'm adorable])

Dean is bright enough to know that Sam knows Dean's life isn't idyllic. Hell, Sam has been there for most of it. He knows that Sam knows Dean is tired of this life, that Dean wishes for more. He also knows that Dean won't ever stop doing this job because this job saves people. However, despite all of this, he doesn't want Sam to have to hear the words. He doesn't want to rub it in Sam's face because that's the deal. They both pretend to be fucking happy as pie with the life they've got.

The Winchesters have died more times than Dean can count on one hand. Dean is well aware that it's going to stick at some point. He's tougher than a lot of humans, but it's through sheer will power and stubbornness, not through any sort of special power. Honestly, Kara's indestructibleness is a part of what makes Dean comfortable having her around. Sure, she can probably be possessed by a demon (and that would be a damn mess and a half) but she can't be killed by any means that Dean knows. That makes her 'safe' to be in his world, as safe as anyone can be. Is it a cool suit, Kara? Because if it's not a cool suit, Dean is totally not wearing it. He has his priorities.

They'd had a dog once for a little while. They hadn't been able to keep it and to this day, Dean will argue that it was Sammy's dog, but he'd liked the dog too. Besides, a dog represents all the things that he and Sam couldn't have when they were growing up like a stable home with a backyard. Dean smirks at Kara. "Long as she doesn't trade my baby in, she can drive whatever she wants." Lisa had had a very sensible, very boring sedan. Kara is exactly right about the kind of woman Dean would marry. He likes strong women with a little fire. HIs mother might have died when he was very young, but he's met her a few times since, often enough to know that she'd had her influence on him. "And I am damn adorable all the time," he points out.

She already knows the answer. Dean already knows the answer despite knowing that there's a big part of him that wishes he could quit. "Other hunters fuck it up," he says simply. "Not all the time but...besides, there aren't many of us left." He's thought about quitting far more than he'd like to admit but he always comes to the same conclusion: he can't quit. There are people in the world that get to have perfect live and then there's Winchesters. He grins at Kara, a sign that he's about to say something ridiculous because her desires are far too reflective of his own. "You can share Sammy with me. He's already mostly housebroken." And clearly, a giant puppy. He sobers a little. "You ought to do it. Have kids. Bet you'd have cute ones. Let Mon-ass take over for a while. No one wants him to reproduce anyway."
