Angel hadn't ever thought he'd leave LA, but after everything that happened, after the dragon, after Wolfram and Hart, after nearly all of his team had been killed, he'd needed a change. He wasn't surprised to find that there was very high demon and vampire population in Washington DC, but discovering that had spurred him into moving there. He'd found a grand old building that had seen a hundred lives (most recently a call center), moved into it and refurbished a good part of it. He'd boarded up the rest of it and hadn't thought twice about it. Angel Investigations had a new home.

He'd met Temperance through a cold case: a set of bones that didn't add up. He'd become an expert that she called on a semi regular basis, anytime that something 'weird' came up. They'd started meeting for coffee to discuss cases and then just to talk, but despite becoming closer, she doesn't know he's a vampire. He's not sure how to explain to someone as logical as Brennan that vampires, demons and all the other things that go bump in the night are real.

It's late when Temperance texts him tonight, but Angel is awake. He tells her to come on over, to let herself in. As a business, he keeps the door unlocked anytime he's awake and in the building. He goes to the kitchen to start a kettle of water. Even at this hour, he's dressed in black pants, a white wife beater and a dark red button down over it.

When she had first met Angel, she couldn't help but gawk. If it weren't for the fact that Booth was standing right beside her (looking just as shocked) and Angel had to be at least ten years younger than the FBI agent, Brennan would've written off the entire experience as a practical joke. It hadn't been and she had proceeded to tell both men that the probability of someone looking nearly identical to another person was 1 in 135. The likelihood of meeting that person, however, was 1 in 1 trillion. Booth and Angel were clearly a statistical anomaly.

(Unfortunately, they were a statistical anomaly that Brennan was not allowed to take measurements of.)

Still, like his doppelganger, Angel had proven to be a good listener and a good friend. Tonight, Booth has a date and knowing that has left Brennan a little uncomfortable. Angela's out with Hodgins and she didn't really know who else to talk to. Thankfully, Angel seemed to still be awake.

"If you intend on having the warehouse double as a residence, I would recommend keeping the door locked," Brennan explains as she walks inside. "Current census data indicate a rise in break-ins within the metro D.C. area."

He's incredibly glad that Brennan was not allowed to take measurements. He didn't mind the gawking so much, or the statistics she'd rattled off to he and Booth about their appearance (and he was only less surprised because he'd heard rumors about someone working for the FBI that looked like him, plus he'd stalked Brennan a little. Shhhh it's his M.O.). He doesn't say it (because she doesn't know what he is) but he's pretty sure the likelihood of meeting that person goes up when one has eternity to meet said person.

Angel sleeps very little and when he does sleep, it's generally after dawn. He's a nocturnal creature, after all. He's surprised to see Brennan, but not upset by it. He likes her. He has a feeling she would appreciate both his love for and his frustration with the history channel. He tends to watch things and argue with the TV, getting upset because they get so damn much wrong.

"People tend to need help most at night though. Besides, I'm a light sleeper. I'd hear anyone that walked in." Also, he can handle most anything that comes through the door. It's warded against supernatural threats and humans wouldn't stand a chance against him, even if they had a gun.

"Can I get you some tea? Or some water?" He tries to be a good host.
