A lot of the time, it's easy to forget that Peeta is actually in charge of the place. He bakes and he comes home. Once a month he listens to complaints, suggestions and the like. Their life is almost exactly what they'd wanted it to be, what they'd dreamed it would be.

The days when he has to leave Teleios is an exception. It's harder on Katniss than it is on Peeta, but he doesn't like being away from her either. He doesn't like that she worries, but he knows there's nothing he can do to alleviate that. It's part and parcel of loving someone, of being loved.

Peeta's arms go around Katniss and he lifts her slightly off her feet a moment. "Of course, I am. " This is the best part of his job for him as well. He pulls back slightly so he can look at her, his eyes gliding over her face. "How's my beautiful wife?"

That doesn't get old, not for him.

A lot of time, it is easy to forget. Life follows the same pattern as before. But it's always at the back of her mind. He's the emissary. That puts him in a position of power that also might put him at risk. How can she forget that? How can she turn off the worry, especially when he has to leave? She could have lost him in the 74th Games. She had nearly lost him in the Quarter Quell, and again at Snow's hands. Life has been good. Too good. Sometimes it's hard to think it will stay this way.

but he's right. It is a part and parcel of being loved, of loving someone. She's always going to worry about him and Katniss knows that he'll always worry about her. It's worth it though. It's worth it any time Peeta calls her his wife.It doesn't get old for her, either.

"Happy to have her husband back," she answers, laughing when he lifts her off the ground for a second. "Extremely happy."

It doesn't get old for her, either.

He knows that his position puts the both of them at risk, but at the end of the day he did this so that they can have this life they have so that everyone here in Teleios can have this life. So far, it's been worth it and the risk has been low. He still hates the trips away from her. He imagines he always will.

They've both given up far too much for this life to ever take any of this for granted, and Peeta is okay with that. He's rather live a life incredibly aware, appreciating every day and every moment.

Deep contentment and a happiness that he couldn't imagine before bubbles up inside him with her laughter and the way she says the word 'husband' like it's a sacred, beloved word. "That's incredibly fortunate for the both of us," he tells her as he puts her back on the ground. He press a kiss to that space below her ear. "I think your husband needs to get reacquainted with his wife."

There are risks back in Panem too. Though she’s looked, Katniss has never met anyone here from a time past hers. She doesn’t know what the future of Panem brings, or if this new government, Plutarch’s democracy will actually work. What if it falls apart and they’re thrust in a war again? At least here, the risks have become predictable. And they have allies, stronger allies than any they would have had back home.

It’s worth having to say goodbye every now and then. Worth it to grow old together, and among friends and family. And if Peeta one day convinces her to have the children she already suspects he’ll want, they’ll grow up safe and loved. They’ll grow up knowing their aunt Prim, too.

The joy that fills him at the word is clear on his face. It makes Katniss smile, pleased and content that she’s the cause of this happiness. Much better than all the pain she’s caused in the past. Her arms remain around his neck even as her feet touch the ground. Eyes close when his lips meet her skin but it’s his words that send goosebumps down her arms. His wife.

“In the middle of the kitchen?” she teases, glancing around quickly to make certain none of the others are around before pressing a kiss against his lips. “The last time you suggested that, Effie couldn’t meet my eyes for a week.” Katniss pauses, reconsidering her words. “Maybe that isn’t such a bad idea.”

Peeta, clearly, is more comfortable with this world than Panem as well. He feels like he has some measure of control here like he can help steer his future. He's glad that Katniss feels the same way because if she didn't...well, they probably wouldn't be here.

Children are something that Peeta already wants, but he doesn't want to pressure her. They're both still very young and there will be time here to have children. Besides, he wants to make sure that their life here is solid and safe (as it can be) before they bring children into it.

She is almost always the cause of his happiness; she ought to realize that by now. Those goosebumps across her skin have their own effect on him; it's a warm, satisfied feeling.

He shrugs a little. "I think she might have learned her lesson," he jokes. "We might ought to consider our own place though, something close by."
